4  Surely ^ahe has borne our griefs

and carried our sorrows;

yet we esteemed him stricken,

smitten by God, and afflicted.

8  For he said, “Surely they are my people,

^hchildren who will not deal falsely.”

And he became their Savior.

9  In all their affliction he was afflicted,¹

and the angel of his presence saved them;

in his ⁱlove and in his pity he redeemed them;

he lifted them up and ^jcarried them all the days of old.
