1  ^vO Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,

nor discipline me in your wrath.

2  Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;

^wheal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.

3  My soul also is greatly troubled.

But you, O Lord—how long?

4  Turn, O Lord, ^xdeliver my life;

save me for the sake of your steadfast love.

5  For in death there is no remembrance of you;

in Sheol ^ywho will give you praise?

6  ^zI am weary with my moaning;

every night I flood my bed with tears;

I drench my couch with my weeping.

7  ^aMy eye wastes away because of grief;

it grows weak because of all my foes.

8  ^bDepart from me, all you workers of evil,

for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.

9  The Lord has heard my plea;

the Lord accepts my prayer.

10  ^cAll my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;

they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

1  ^vTo you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

2  ^wO my God, in you I trust;

let me not be put to shame;

let not my enemies exult over me.

3  Indeed, ^xnone who ^ywait for you shall be ^zput to shame;

they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4  ^aMake me to know your ways, O Lord;

teach me your paths.

5  Lead me ^bin your truth and teach me,

for you are the God of my salvation;

for you I wait all the day long.

6  Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,

for they have been from of old.

7  ^cRemember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;

^daccording to your steadfast love remember me,

^efor the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

8  Good and upright is the Lord;

therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

9  He leads the humble in what is right,

and teaches the humble his way.

10  All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,

for those who ^fkeep his covenant and his testimonies.

11  ^gFor your name’s sake, O Lord,

^hpardon my guilt, for it is great.

12  Who is the man who fears the Lord?

Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.

13  His soul shall abide in well-being,

and ⁱhis offspring shall inherit the land.

14  The ^jfriendship² of the Lord is for those who fear him,

and he makes known to them his covenant.

15  My eyes are ever toward the Lord,

for ^khe will pluck my feet out of the net.

16  ^lTurn to me and be gracious to me,

^mfor I am lonely and afflicted.

17  The troubles of my heart are enlarged;

bring me out of my distresses.

18  Consider my affliction and my trouble,

and forgive all my sins.

19  Consider how many are my foes,

and with what violent hatred they hate me.

20  Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me!

Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.

21  May integrity and uprightness preserve me,

for I wait for you.

22  ⁿRedeem Israel, O God,

out of all his troubles.

1  ^tBlessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,

whose sin is ^ucovered.

2  Blessed is the man against whom the Lord ^vcounts no iniquity,

and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

3  For when I kept silent, ^wmy bones wasted away

through my groaning all day long.

4  For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;

my strength was dried up² as by the heat of summer. Selah

5  I acknowledged my sin to you,

and I did not cover my iniquity;

I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”

and you ^xforgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

6  Therefore let everyone who is godly

offer prayer to you ^yat a time when you may be found;

surely in the rush of great waters,

they shall not reach him.

7  You are a ^zhiding place for me;

you preserve me from trouble;

you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah

8  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;

I will ^acounsel you ^bwith my eye upon you.

9  ^cBe not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,

which must be curbed with bit and bridle,

or it will not stay near you.

10  Many are the sorrows of the wicked,

but steadfast love surrounds the one who ^dtrusts in the Lord.

11  Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,

and shout for joy, all you ^eupright in heart!

3  There is no soundness in my flesh

because of your indignation;

there is no health in my bones

because of my sin.

4  For ^emy iniquities have gone over my head;

like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.

because of my foolishness,

6  I am utterly bowed down and prostrate;

all the day I ^fgo about mourning.

7  For my sides are filled with burning,

and there is no soundness in my flesh.

8  I am feeble and crushed;

I groan because of the tumult of my heart.

9  O Lord, all my longing is before you;

my sighing is not hidden from you.

10  My heart throbs; my strength fails me,

and ^gthe light of my eyes—it also has gone from me.

11  My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague,

and ^hmy nearest kin stand far off.

12  Those who seek my life lay their snares;

those who seek my hurt speak of ruin

and meditate treachery all day long.

13  But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear,

like a ⁱmute man who does not open his mouth.

14  I have become like a man who does not hear,

and in whose mouth are no rebukes.

15  But for you, O Lord, do I wait;

it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.

16  For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me,

who boast against me when my foot slips!”

17  For I am ready to fall,

and my pain is ever before me.

18  I confess my iniquity;

I am sorry for my sin.

19  But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty,

and many are those who hate me wrongfully.

20  Those who ^jrender me evil for good

accuse me because I follow after good.

21  ^kDo not forsake me, O Lord!

O my God, ^lbe not far from me!

22  ^mMake haste to help me,

O Lord, my salvation!

1  ^jHave mercy on me,¹ O God,

^kaccording to your steadfast love;

according to your abundant mercy

^lblot out my transgressions.

2  ^mWash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

and ⁿcleanse me from my sin!

3  For I know my transgressions,

and my sin is ever before me.

4  ^oAgainst you, you only, have I sinned

and done what is evil in your sight,

^pso that you may be justified in your words

and blameless in your judgment.

5  Behold, I was ^qbrought forth in iniquity,

and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6  Behold, you delight in truth ^rin the inward being,

and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

7  Purge me with ^shyssop, and I shall be clean;

wash me, and I shall be ^twhiter than snow.

8  Let me hear joy and gladness;

let the bones that you have broken ^urejoice.

9  Hide your face from my sins,

and blot out all my iniquities.

10  Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a right² spirit within me.

11  ^vCast me not away from your presence,

and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

12  Restore to me the joy of your salvation,

and uphold me with a willing spirit.

13  Then I will teach transgressors your ways,

and sinners will return to you.

14  Deliver me from ^wbloodguiltiness, O God,

O God of my salvation,

and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.

15  O Lord, open my lips,

and my mouth will declare your praise.

16  For ^xyou will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;

you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.

17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;

a ^ybroken and ^zcontrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

18  ^aDo good to Zion in your good pleasure;

^bbuild up the walls of Jerusalem;

19  then will you delight in right sacrifices,

in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;

then bulls will be offered on your altar.

1  Out of the ^fdepths I cry to you, O Lord!

2  O Lord, hear my voice!

Let your ears be ^gattentive

to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

3  If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,

O Lord, ^hwho could stand?

4  But with you there is ⁱforgiveness,

^jthat you may be feared.

5  I ^kwait for the Lord, my soul waits,

and ^lin his word I hope;

6  ^mmy soul waits for the Lord

more than watchmen for the morning,

more than watchmen for the morning.

7  ⁿO Israel, hope in the Lord!

For with the Lord there is ^osteadfast love,

and with him is plentiful redemption.

8  And he will ^predeem Israel

from all his iniquities.

1  ^yHear my prayer, O Lord;

give ear to my pleas for mercy!

In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!

2  ^zEnter not into judgment with your servant,

for ^ano one living is righteous before you.

3  For the enemy has pursued my soul;

he has crushed my life to the ground;

^bhe has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.

4  Therefore ^cmy spirit faints within me;

my heart within me is appalled.

5  I remember the ^ddays of old;

I meditate on all that you have done;

I ponder the work of your hands.

6  I stretch out my hands to you;

^emy soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah

7  Answer me ^fquickly, O Lord!

My spirit fails!

Hide not your face from me,

lest I be like those who go down to the pit.

8  Let me hear ^gin the morning of your steadfast love,

for in you I trust.

^hMake me know the way I should go,

for ⁱto you I lift up my soul.

9  ^jDeliver me from my enemies, O Lord!

I have fled to you for refuge.¹

10  Teach me to do your will,

for you are my God!

Let ^kyour good Spirit ^llead me

on level ground!

11  ^mFor your name’s sake, O Lord, preserve my life!

ⁿIn your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble!

12  And in your steadfast love you will ^ocut off my enemies,

and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul,

for I am your servant.
