Save Me, O My God
A Psalm of David, twhen he fled from Absalom his son.
1 O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
2 many are usaying of my soul,
“There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah1
3 But you, O Lord, are a vshield about me,
my glory, and the wlifter of my head.
4 xI cried yaloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
5 I zlay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid aof many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Arise, O Lord!
Save me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.
8 bSalvation belongs to the Lord;
your blessing be on your people! Selah
How Long, O Lord?
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1 vHow long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you whide your face from me?
2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
xlight up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
5 But I have ytrusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.
Come to Our Help
To the choirmaster. A Maskil1 of the Sons of Korah.
1 O God, we have heard with our ears,
hour fathers have told us,
what deeds you performed in their days,
in the idays of old:
2 you with your own hand drove out the nations,
but them you planted;
you afflicted the peoples,
but them you set free;
3 for jnot by their own sword did they win the land,
nor did their own arm save them,
but your right hand and your arm,
and the klight of your face,
for you delighted in them.
4 You are my King, O God;
ordain salvation for Jacob!
5 Through you we push down our foes;
through your name we tread down those who rise up against us.
6 For lnot in my bow do I trust,
nor can my sword save me.
7 But you have saved us from our foes
and have put to shame those who hate us.
8 In God we have mboasted continually,
and nwe will give thanks to your name forever. Selah
9 But you have orejected us and disgraced us
and phave not gone out with our armies.
10 You have made us turn back from the foe,
and those who hate us have gotten spoil.
11 You have made us qlike sheep for slaughter
and have rscattered us among the nations.
12 You have ssold your people for a trifle,
demanding no high price for them.
13 You have made us the taunt of our neighbors,
the tderision and scorn of those around us.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations,
a laughingstock2 among the peoples.
15 All day long my disgrace is before me,
and shame has covered my face
16 at the sound of the taunter and reviler,
at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come upon us,
though we have not uforgotten you,
and we have not been false to your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
vnor have our steps departed from your way;
19 yet you have broken us in the place of jackals
and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 wIf we had forgotten the name of our God
or spread out our hands to a xforeign god,
21 would not God discover this?
For he yknows the secrets of the heart.
22 Yet zfor your sake we are killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
23 aAwake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord?
Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!
24 Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
25 For bour soul is bowed down to the dust;
our belly clings to the ground.
26 Rise up; come to our help!
Redeem us cfor the sake of your steadfast love!
In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord
To the choirmaster: according to vJeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.
1 I wcry aloud to God,
aloud to God, and he will hear me.
2 In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying;
my soul refuses to be comforted.
3 When I remember God, I moan;
when I meditate, xmy spirit faints. Selah
4 You hold my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
5 I consider the ydays of old,
the years long ago.
6 I said,1 “Let me remember my song in the znight;
let me meditate in my heart.”
Then my spirit made a diligent search:
7 “Will the Lord spurn forever,
and never again be favorable?
8 Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his promises at an end for all time?
9 Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah
10 Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
11 I will bremember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will ponder all your work,
and cmeditate on your mighty deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is holy.
dWhat god is great like our God?
14 You are the God who works wonders;
you have emade known your might among the peoples.
15 You with your arm fredeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
16 gWhen the waters hsaw you, O God,
when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
indeed, the deep trembled.
17 iThe clouds poured out water;
the skies gave forth thunder;
your jarrows flashed on every side.
18 The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
your lightnings lighted up the world;
kthe earth trembled and shook.
19 Your lway was through the sea,
your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints were unseen.3
20 You mled your people like a nflock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
