2  ^eHear, you peoples, all of you;¹

^fpay attention, O earth, and all that is in it,

and let the Lord God be a witness against you,

the Lord from his ^gholy temple.

3  ^hFor behold, the Lord is coming out of his place,

and will come down and ⁱtread upon the high places of the earth.

4  And the ^jmountains will melt under him,

and the valleys will split open,

like wax before the fire,

like waters poured down a steep place.

5  All this is for the transgression of Jacob

and for the sins of the house of Israel.

What is the transgression of Jacob?

Is it not Samaria?

And what is the high place of Judah?

Is it not Jerusalem?

3  Therefore thus says the Lord:

behold, against this family I am devising disaster,¹

from which you cannot remove your necks,

and you shall not walk haughtily,

^sfor it will be a time of disaster.

1  Hear what the Lord says:

Arise, plead your case before the mountains,

and let the hills hear your voice.

2  ^sHear, you mountains, the indictment of the Lord,

and you enduring foundations of the earth,

for ^tthe Lord has an indictment against his people,

and he will contend with Israel.

9  The voice of the Lord cries to the city—

and it is sound wisdom to fear your name:

“Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it!¹

10  Can I forget any longer the treasures² of wickedness in the house of the wicked,

and the scant measure that is accursed?

11  Shall I acquit the man with ^ewicked scales

and with a bag of deceitful weights?
