13 However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give ^mone tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and ⁿfor the sake of Jerusalem that I have ^ochosen.”

Rehoboam Reigns in Judah

21 ^fNow Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had ^gchosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to ^hput his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite.

7 And the carved image of Asherah that he had made he set in the house ^bof which the Lord said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.
