13 Therefore ^clet us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a ^dstumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that ^enothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean ^ffor anyone who thinks it unclean. 15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are ^gno longer walking in love. ^hBy what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. 17 For ⁱthe kingdom of God is ^jnot a matter of eating and drinking ^kbut of righteousness and ^lpeace and ^mjoy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ is ⁿacceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us ^opursue what makes for peace and for mutual ^pupbuilding.

20 Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. ^qEverything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats. 21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.¹ 22 The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. 23 But ^rwhoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. ^sFor whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.²

40 ^vNow when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 And there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus’ feet, he implored him to come to his house, 42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

As Jesus went, the people pressed around him. 43 And there was a woman who had had a ^wdischarge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians,¹ she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter² said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that ^xpower has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, ^yyour faith has made you well; go in peace.”

49 ^zWhile he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.” 50 But Jesus on hearing this answered him, “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.” 51 And when he came to the house, he allowed no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. 52 And all were weeping and mourning for her, but he said, ^a“Do not weep, for she is ^bnot dead but sleeping.” 53 And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But ^ctaking her by the hand he called, saying, ^d“Child, arise.” 55 And her spirit returned, and she got up at once. And he directed that something should be given her to eat. 56 And her parents were amazed, but he charged them to tell ^eno one what had happened.
