1  O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your ^qname in all the earth!

You have set your ^rglory above the heavens.

2  ^sOut of the mouth of babies and infants,

you have established ^tstrength because of your foes,

to still ^uthe enemy and the avenger.

3  When I ^vlook at your heavens, the work of your ^wfingers,

the moon and the stars, ^xwhich you have set in place,

4  ^ywhat is man that you are ^zmindful of him,

and ^athe son of man that you ^bcare for him?

5  Yet you have made him a little lower than ^cthe heavenly beings²

and crowned him with ^dglory and honor.

6  You have given him ^edominion over the works of your hands;

^fyou have put all things under his feet,

7  all sheep and oxen,

and also the beasts of the field,

8  the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,

whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9  O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

1  The Lord is my ^dshepherd; I shall not ^ewant.

2  He makes me lie down in green ^fpastures.

He leads me beside still waters.¹

3  He ^grestores my soul.

He ^hleads me in ⁱpaths of righteousness²

for his ^jname’s sake.

4  Even though I ^kwalk through the valley of ^lthe shadow of death,³

I will ^mfear no evil,

for ⁿyou are with me;

your ^orod and your staff,

they comfort me.

5  You ^pprepare a table before me

in ^qthe presence of my enemies;

you ^ranoint my head with oil;

my ^scup overflows.

6  Surely⁴ goodness and mercy⁵ shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall ^tdwell⁶ in the house of the Lord

^uforever.⁷

1  The Lord is my ^hlight and my ⁱsalvation;

^jwhom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold¹ of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?

2  When evildoers assail me

to ^keat up my flesh,

my adversaries and foes,

it is they who stumble and fall.

3  ^lThough an army encamp against me,

my heart shall not fear;

though war arise against me,

yet² I will be confident.

4  ^mOne thing have I asked of the Lord,

that will I seek after:

that I may ⁿdwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,

to gaze upon ^othe beauty of the Lord

and to inquire³ in his temple.

5  For he will ^phide me in his shelter

in the day of trouble;

he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

he will ^qlift me high upon a rock.

6  And now my ^rhead shall be lifted up

above my enemies all around me,

and I will offer in his tent

sacrifices with shouts of ^sjoy;

^tI will sing and make melody to the Lord.

7  ^uHear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;

be gracious to me and answer me!

8  You have said, ^v“Seek⁴ my face.”

My heart says to you,

“Your face, Lord, do I seek.”⁵

9  ^wHide not your face from me.

Turn not your servant away in anger,

O you who have been my help.

Cast me not off; forsake me not,

^xO God of my salvation!

10  For ^ymy father and my mother have forsaken me,

but the Lord will ^ztake me in.

11  ^aTeach me your way, O Lord,

and lead me on ^ba level path

because of my enemies.

12  ^cGive me not up to the will of my adversaries;

for ^dfalse witnesses have risen against me,

and they ^ebreathe out violence.

13  I believe that I shall look⁶ upon ^fthe goodness of the Lord

in ^gthe land of the living!

14  ^hWait for the Lord;

ⁱbe strong, and let your heart take courage;

wait for the Lord!

1  I ^vlift up my eyes to ^wthe hills.

From where does my help come?

2  ^xMy help comes from the Lord,

who ^ymade heaven and earth.

3  He will not ^zlet your foot be moved;

he who ^akeeps you will not slumber.

4  Behold, he who keeps Israel

will neither slumber nor sleep.

5  The Lord is your keeper;

the Lord is your ^bshade on your ^cright hand.

6  ^dThe sun shall not ^estrike you by day,

nor the moon by night.

7  The Lord will ^akeep you from all evil;

he will ^akeep your life.

8  The Lord will keep

your ^fgoing out and your coming in

from this time forth and forevermore.

1  O Lord, you have ^psearched me and known me!

2  You ^qknow when I sit down and when I rise up;

you ^rdiscern my thoughts from afar.

3  You search out my path and my lying down

and are acquainted with all my ways.

4  Even before a word is on my tongue,

behold, O Lord, ^syou know it altogether.

5  You ^them me in, behind and before,

and ^ulay your hand upon me.

6  ^vSuch knowledge is ^wtoo wonderful for me;

it is high; I cannot attain it.

7  ^xWhere shall I go from your Spirit?

Or where ^yshall I flee from your presence?

8  ^zIf I ascend to heaven, you are there!

^aIf I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

9  If I take the wings of the morning

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10  even there your hand shall ^blead me,

and your right hand shall hold me.

11  If I say, ^c“Surely the darkness shall cover me,

and the light about me be night,”

12  ^deven the darkness is not dark to you;

the night is bright as the day,

for darkness is as light with you.

13  For you ^eformed my inward parts;

you ^fknitted me together in my mother’s womb.

14  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.¹

^gWonderful are your works;

my soul knows it very well.

15  ^hMy frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in ⁱthe depths of the earth.

16  Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your ^jbook were written, every one of them,

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

17  How precious to me are your ^kthoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

18  ^lIf I would count them, they are more than ^mthe sand.

I awake, and I am still with you.

19  Oh that you would ⁿslay the wicked, O God!

O ^omen of blood, ^pdepart from me!

20  They ^qspeak against you with malicious intent;

your enemies ^rtake your name in vain.²

21  ^sDo I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?

And do I not ^tloathe those who ^urise up against you?

22  I hate them with complete hatred;

I count them my enemies.

23  Search me, O God, and know my heart!

^vTry me and know my thoughts!³

24  And see if there be any grievous way in me,

and ^wlead me in ^xthe way everlasting!⁴
