Gideons International and the ESV Bible
Founded in 1899, The Gideons International is an Association of Christian business and professional men and their wives dedicated to telling people about Jesus through associating together for service, sharing personal testimony, and by providing Bibles and New Testaments. More than two billion Bibles and New Testaments have been distributed in two hundred countries, territories, and possessions across the globe. The ESV Bible text is the primary English text used by The Gideons International for their printed Bibles and New Testaments.
About the ESV Bible
First published by Crossway in 2001, the ESV Bible is based on essentially literal translation principles and emphasizes textual accuracy with readability and literary excellence.
The ESV Bible was produced by more than one hundred of the world’s leading Bible scholars and teachers. Their aim was to apply the most recent evangelical scholarship and carry forward the trusted legacy of the Bible in English—the legacy established first in the Tyndale New Testament (1526) and the King James Bible (1611).
Today, the ESV is read by tens of millions of English-speaking Christians around the world.
