Greeting

1 Paul, a servant¹ of Christ Jesus, ^acalled to be an apostle, ^bset apart for the ^cgospel of God, 2 which he ^dpromised beforehand ^ethrough his prophets ^fin the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was ^gdescended from David² according to the flesh 4 and was ^hdeclared to be the ⁱSon of God ^jin power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 ^kthrough whom we have received grace and ^lapostleship to bring about the ^mobedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,

24 but ⁿfor ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in ^ohim who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, 25 who was delivered up ^pfor our trespasses and ^qraised for our ^rjustification.

Peace with God Through Faith

1 Therefore, since we have been ^sjustified by faith, we¹ have ^tpeace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained ^uaccess by faith² into this grace in which we stand, and we³ rejoice^{4 v}in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we ^wrejoice in our sufferings, ^xknowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and ^yhope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been ^zpoured into our hearts ^athrough the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

6 For ^bwhile we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us ^cin that ^dwhile we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the ^ewrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were ^freconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also ^grejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

1 ^vWhat shall we say then? ^wAre we to continue in sin that ^xgrace may abound? 2 By no means! ^yHow can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been ^zbaptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were ^aburied therefore with him by baptism into death, ^bin order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in ^cnewness of life.

Life in the Spirit

1 There is therefore now no ^acondemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.¹ 2 For the ^blaw of the Spirit of life has set you^{2 c}free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done ^dwhat the law, ^eweakened by the flesh, could not do. ^fBy sending his own Son ^gin the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,³ he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the ^hrighteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who ⁱwalk ^jnot according to the flesh but ^kaccording to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh ^lset their minds on ^mthe things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on ⁿthe things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 ^oFor the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God ^pdwells in you. Anyone who does not have the ^qSpirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is ^rin you, although the ^sbody is dead because of sin, the Spirit is ^tlife because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of ^uhim who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus⁴ from the dead will also ^vgive life to your mortal bodies ^wthrough his Spirit who dwells in you.
