6 Surely a man goes about as a ushadow!
Surely for nothing1 they are in turmoil;
vman heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
10 For he sees that eeven the wise die;
the fool and the stupid alike must perish
and leave their wealth to others.
The Vanity of Toil
18 I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must oleave it to the man who will come after me, 19 and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity. 20 So I turned about and gave my heart up to despair over all the toil of my labors under the sun, 21 because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.
1 rThere is an evil that I have seen under the sun, and it lies heavy on mankind: 2 a man to whom God gives swealth, possessions, and honor, so that he lacks nothing of all that he desires, yet God does not give him power to enjoy them, tbut a stranger enjoys them. This is vanity;1 it is a grievous evil.
