6 Surely a man goes about as a ushadow!
Surely for nothing1 they are in turmoil;
vman heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
17 he may pile it up, pbut the righteous will wear it,
and the innocent will divide the silver.
18 He builds his qhouse like a moth’s,
like a booth that a watchman makes.
19 rHe goes to bed rich, but will do so no more;
he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone.
20 Terrors overtake him like a flood;
in the night a whirlwind carries him off.
21 The east wind lifts him up and he is sgone;
it sweeps him out of his place.
22 It1 hurls at him without pity;
he flees from its2 power in headlong flight.
The Vanity of Toil
18 I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must oleave it to the man who will come after me,
21 because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.
