Praise the Name of the Lord
1 rPraise the Lord!
Praise the Lord sfrom the heavens;
praise him tin the heights!
2 Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his uhosts!
3 Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars!
4 Praise him, you vhighest heavens,
and you wwaters above the heavens!
5 xLet them praise the name of the Lord!
For yhe commanded and they were created.
6 And he zestablished them forever and ever;
7 Praise the Lord cfrom the earth,
you dgreat sea creatures and all deeps,
9 iMountains and all hills,
10 lBeasts and all livestock,
creeping things and mflying birds!
11 Kings of the earth and nall peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
13 oLet them praise the name of the Lord,
for phis name alone is exalted;
qhis majesty is above earth and heaven.
14 He has rraised up a horn for his people,
spraise for all his saints,
for the people of Israel who are tnear to him.
uPraise the Lord!
18 fSamuel was ministering before the Lord, a boy gclothed with a linen ephod. 19 And his mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year hwhen she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. 20 Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “May the Lord give you children by this woman ifor the petition she asked of the Lord.” So then they would return to their home.
26 Now the boy Samuel ncontinued to grow both in stature and in favor with the Lord and also with man.
The Boy Jesus in the Temple
41 Now whis parents went xto Jerusalem every year at ythe Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, zthey went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast awas ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. wHis parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day’s journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, bsitting among cthe teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when his parents1 saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, dyour father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that eI must be in fmy Father’s house?”2 50 And gthey did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And hhis mother treasured up all these things in her heart.
52 And Jesus iincreased in wisdom and in stature3 and in ifavor with God and man.
12 dPut on then, as eGod’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, fcompassionate hearts, gkindness, hhumility, meekness, and patience, 13 hbearing with one another and, iif one has a complaint against another, gforgiving each other; gas the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on jlove, which kbinds everything together in lperfect harmony. 15 And let mthe peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called nin one body. And obe thankful. 16 Let pthe word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, qsinging psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, rwith thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And swhatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, tgiving thanks to God the Father through him.
