Give Thanks to the Lord
Of David.
1 tI give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down utoward your holy temple
and vgive thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.1
3 wOn the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased.2
4 xAll the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord,
for they have heard the words of your mouth,
5 and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For though the Lord is yhigh, he regards the lowly,
zbut the haughty he knows from afar.
7 aThough I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will bfulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not cforsake the work of your hands.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ
13 zNow when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say aJohn the Baptist, others say bElijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the cprophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, d“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, ebut my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and fon this grock1 I will hbuild my church, and the igates of hell2 shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the jkeys of the kingdom of heaven, and kwhatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed3 in heaven.” 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Joseph Provides for His Brothers and Family
1 Then Joseph could not dcontrol himself before all those who stood by him. He cried, “Make everyone go out from me.” So no one stayed with him when eJoseph fmade himself known to his brothers. 2 And he gwept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it. 3 And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence.
4 So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, hwhom you sold into Egypt. 5 And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for iGod sent me before you to preserve life. 6 For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are jyet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. 8 So it was not you who sent me here, but God. kHe has made me a father to Pharaoh, and llord of all his house and mruler over all the land of Egypt.
