Psalm 118

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

1  Oh tgive thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

for his steadfast love endures forever!

2  uLet Israel say,

“His steadfast love endures forever.”

3  Let the house of Aaron say,

“His steadfast love endures forever.”

4  Let those who fear the Lord say,

“His steadfast love endures forever.”

5  vOut of my distress I called on the Lord;

the Lord answered me and set me free.

6  wThe Lord is xon my side; yI will not fear.

What can man do to me?

7  The Lord is on my side as my helper;

I shall zlook in triumph on those who hate me.

8  It is better to take refuge in the Lord

than to trust in man.

9  It is better to take refuge in the Lord

athan to trust in princes.

10  All nations surrounded me;

in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

11  They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;

in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

12  They surrounded me blike bees;

they went out like a fire among thorns;

in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

13  I was pushed hard,1 so that I was falling,

but the Lord helped me.

14  cThe Lord is my strength and my song;

he has become my salvation.

15  Glad songs of salvation

are in the tents of the righteous:

“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,

16  the right hand of the Lord exalts,

the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!”

17  dI shall not die, but I shall live,

and erecount the deeds of the Lord.

18  The Lord has fdisciplined me severely,

but he has not given me over to death.

19  Open to me the gates of righteousness,

that I may enter through them

and ggive thanks to the Lord.

20  This is the gate of the Lord;

the righteous shall enter through it.

21  hI thank you that you have answered me

and have become my salvation.

22  iThe stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone.2

23  This is the Lord’s doing;

it is marvelous in our eyes.

24  This is the day that the Lord has made;

let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25  jSave us, we pray, O Lord!

O Lord, we pray, give us success!

26  kBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

We bless you from the house of the Lord.

27  The Lord is God,

and he has lmade his light to shine upon us.

Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,

up to the horns of the altar!

28  You are my God, and mI will give thanks to you;

nyou are my God; I will extol you.

29  Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

for his steadfast love endures forever!

Isaiah 52:13–53:12

He Was Pierced for Our Transgressions

13  Behold, tmy servant shall act wisely;1

he shall be uhigh and lifted up,

and shall be exalted.

14  As many were astonished at you—

his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,

and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—

15  so shall he sprinkle2 many nations.

Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,

for vthat which has not been told them they see,

and that which they have not heard they understand.

1  wWho has xbelieved what he has heard from us?3

And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

2  For he grew up before him like a young plant,

and like a yroot out of dry ground;

he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,

and no beauty that we should desire him.

3  He was zdespised and rejected4 by men,

a man of sorrows5 and acquainted with6 grief;7

and as one from whom men hide their faces8

he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4  Surely ahe has borne our griefs

and carried our sorrows;

yet we esteemed him stricken,

smitten by God, and afflicted.

5  But he was pierced bfor our transgressions;

he was crushed for our iniquities;

upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

and with his wounds we are healed.

6  cAll we like sheep have gone astray;

we have turned—every one—to his own way;

and the Lord has laid on him

the iniquity of us all.

7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,

yet dhe opened not his mouth;

elike a lamb that is led to the slaughter,

and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,

so he opened not his mouth.

8  By oppression and judgment he was taken away;

and as for his generation, who considered

that he was cut off out of the land of the living,

stricken for the transgression of my people?

9  And they made his grave with the wicked

and with a frich man in his death,

although9 ghe had done no violence,

and there was no deceit in his mouth.

10  Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him;

he has put him to grief;10

when his soul makes11 an offering for guilt,

he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;

the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11  Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see12 and be satisfied;

by his knowledge shall the righteous one, hmy servant,

imake many to be accounted righteous,

and he shall jbear their iniquities.

12  Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,13

and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,14

because he poured out his soul to death

kand was numbered lwith the transgressors;

yet he mbore the sin of many,

and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Luke 19:29–48

29 When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, n“Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which ono one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the pcolt, they set Jesus on it. 36 And as he rode along, they qspread their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying, r“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the shighest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very tstones would cry out.”

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he uwept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a vbarricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will wnot leave one stone upon another in you, xbecause you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

45 yAnd he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, 46 saying to them, “It is written, z‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a aden of robbers.”

47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking bto destroy him, 48 but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were changing on his words.
