The Lord Has Chosen Zion
A Song of Ascents.
1 Remember, O Lord, in David’s favor,
all the hardships he endured,
2 show he swore to the Lord
and vowed to tthe Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
4 I will unot give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for the Lord,
6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
xwe found it in the fields of Jaar.
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place;
let us yworship at his footstool!”
8 zArise, O Lord, and go to your resting place,
you and the ark of your amight.
9 Let your priests be bclothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
11 The Lord eswore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body1
I will set on your fthrone.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
shall sit on your throne.”
13 For gthe Lord has hchosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
14 “This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will isatisfy her poor with bread.
16 jHer priests I will kclothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
17 There lI will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a mlamp for my anointed.
18 His enemies I will nclothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.”
When Brothers Dwell in Unity
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers odwell in unity!2
2 It is like the precious poil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his qrobes!
3 It is rlike the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there sthe Lord has commanded the blessing,
life forevermore.
Come, Bless the Lord
A Song of Ascents.
1 tCome, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,
uwho stand by night in the house of the Lord!
2 vLift up your hands to the holy place
and bless the Lord!
3 wMay the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who made heaven and earth!
The Lord’s Supper
17 But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. 18 For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are sdivisions among you. And I believe it in part,1 19 for there must be factions among you tin order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized. 20 When you come together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat. 21 For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, another gets drunk. 22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not.
23 uFor I vreceived from the Lord what I also wdelivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for2 you. Do this in remembrance of me.”3 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the xnew covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 yLet a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.4 31 But if we judged5 ourselves truly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are zdisciplined6 so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
33 So then, my brothers,7 when you come together to eat, await for8 one another— 34 if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home—so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other things I will give directions bwhen I come.
