17 who forsakes sthe companion of her youth
and forgets tthe covenant of her God;
4 Have you not just now ncalled to me,
‘My father, you are the friend of my youth—
18 Let your ofountain be blessed,
8 “When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and lI spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you mand entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, nand you became mine.
The Lord’s Everlasting Covenant
59 “For thus says the Lord God: I will deal with you as you have done, you swho have despised the oath in breaking the covenant, 60 yet tI will remember my covenant with you uin the days of your youth, vand I will establish for you an everlasting covenant.
14 xBut you say, “Why does he not?” Because the Lord ywas witness between you and the wife of your youth, zto whom tyou have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. 15 aDid he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?1 And what was the one God2 seeking?3 bGodly offspring. So guard yourselves4 in your spirit, and let none of you be tfaithless to the wife of your youth. 16 “For cthe man who does not love his wife but divorces her,5 says the Lord, the God of Israel, covers6 his garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and tdo not be faithless.”
