The Lord’s Prayer
5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7 d“And when you pray, do not eheap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their fmany words. 8 Do not be like them, gfor your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
10 Your ikingdom come,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our kdaily bread,3
12 and lforgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And mlead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.4
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Since then we have a great khigh priest who has passed lthrough the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us mhold fast our nconfession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our oweaknesses, but one who pin every respect has been qtempted as we are, yet rwithout sin. 16 Let us then with sconfidence tdraw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
4 qRejoice in the Lord ralways; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness1 be known to everyone. The Lord is sat hand; 6 tdo not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication uwith thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the vpeace of God, which wsurpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 xWhat you have learned2 and yreceived and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
