Jesus Cleanses the Temple

12 iAnd Jesus entered the temple1 and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the jmoney-changers and the seats of those who sold kpigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, l‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a mden of robbers.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,

n“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies

you have prepared praise’?”

17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

But you have made it a aden of robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way bto destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was castonished at his teaching. 19 And when evening came they1 went out of the city.

John 2:13–22

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

13 sThe Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus twent up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and upigeons, and the vmoney-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make wmy Father’s house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples xremembered that it was written, y“Zeal for your house will consume me.”

18 So the Jews said to him, “What zsign do you show us for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, a“Destroy this temple, and in bthree days cI will raise it up.” 20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple,1 and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
