16 then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And tyou shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
33 A nation that you have not known shall neat up the fruit of your ground and of all your labors, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually,
3 For whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them. 4 They would encamp against them and idevour the produce of the land, as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel and no sheep or ox or donkey. 5 For they would come up with their livestock and their tents; they would come jlike locusts in number—both they and their camels could not be counted—so that they laid waste the land as they came in. 6 And Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the people of Israel kcried out for help to the Lord.
17 They shall beat up your harvest and your food;
they shall eat up your sons and your daughters;
they shall eat up your cflocks and your herds;
they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees;
your fortified cities in which you trust
they shall beat down with the sword.”
