A Sinful Woman Forgiven

36 uOne of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. 37 vAnd behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wwiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, If xthis man were ya prophet, he zwould have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner. 40 And Jesus answering said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he answered, Say it, Teacher.

41 A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred adenarii, and the other fifty. 42 bWhen they could not pay, he ccancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more? 43 Simon answered, The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt. And he said to him, You have judged rightly. 44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house; dyou gave me no water for my feet, but eshe has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 fYou gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to gkiss my feet. 46 hYou did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, iwhich are many, are forgivenfor she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little. 48 And he said to her, jYour sins are forgiven. 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among1 themselves, kWho is this, who even forgives sins? 50 And he said to the woman, lYour faith has saved you; mgo in peace.

For I want you to know yhow great a wstruggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that ztheir hearts may be encouraged, being aknit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of bGod’s mystery, which is Christ, cin whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this in order dthat no one may delude you with plausible arguments. For ethough I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your fgood order and gthe firmness of your faith in Christ.

Alive in Christ

hTherefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, irooted and jbuilt up in him and kestablished in the faith, just las you were taught, abounding min thanksgiving.

Restore Our Fortunes, O Lord

A Song of mAscents.

126  When the Lord srestored the fortunes of Zion,

we were like those who tdream.

Then our umouth was filled with laughter,

and our tongue with shouts of joy;

then they said among the nations,

vThe Lord has done great things for them.

The Lord has done great things for us;

we are glad.

Restore our fortunes, O Lord,

like streams in the Negeb!

wThose who sow in tears

shall reap with shouts of joy!

He who goes out weeping,

bearing the seed for sowing,

shall come home with shouts of joy,

bringing his sheaves with him.

Descendants of Reuben

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (cfor he was the firstborn, but because dhe defiled his father’s couch, ehis birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son; fthough Judah became strong among his brothers and a gchief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph), the hsons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. He also lived to the east as far as the entrance of the desert this side of the Euphrates, because their livestock had multiplied oin the land of Gilead. 10 And in the days of Saul they waged war against the pHagrites, who fell into their hand. And they lived in their tents throughout all the region east of Gilead.
