46 And Mary said,

yMy zsoul amagnifies the Lord,

48  for dhe has looked on the humble estate of his servant.

For behold, from now on all generations ewill call me blessed;

and hholy is his name.

50  And ihis mercy is for those who fear him

The Lord’s Covenant with David

sNow when the king lived in his house and the Lord thad given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, the king said to uNathan the prophet, See now, I dwell vin a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells win a tent. And Nathan said to the king, xGo, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.

But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, Go and tell my servant David, Thus says the Lord: yWould you build me a house to dwell in? I have not lived in a house zsince the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about ain a tent for my dwelling. In all places where bI have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with cany of the judges1 of Israel, whom I commanded dto shepherd my people Israel, saying, Why have you not built me a house of cedar? Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, Thus says the Lord of hosts, eI took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince2 over my people Israel. fAnd I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel gand will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place hand be disturbed no more. iAnd violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 jfrom the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And kI will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that lthe Lord will make you a house.

2 Samuel 7:16

16 uAnd your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me.1 uYour throne shall be established forever.

Birth of Jesus Foretold

26 In the sixth month the angel xGabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named yNazareth, 27 zto a virgin betrothed1 to a man whose name was Joseph, aof the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, Greetings, bO favored one, cthe Lord is with you!2 29 But dshe was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for eyou have found favor with God. 31 And behold, fyou will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and gyou shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of hthe Most High. And the Lord God iwill give to him the throne of jhis father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob kforever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.

34 And Mary said to the angel, How will this be, since I am a virgin?3

35 And the angel answered her, lThe Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of hthe Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born4 will be called mholynthe Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her owho was called barren. 37 For pnothing will be impossible with God. 38 And Mary said, Behold, I am the servant5 of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word. And qthe angel departed from her.
