Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

9 ^d“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. 10 And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.

11 ^e“You shall not steal; ^fyou shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another. 12 ^gYou shall not swear by my name falsely, and so ^hprofane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

13 ⁱ“You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. ^jThe wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning. 14 ^kYou shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall ^lfear your God: I am the Lord.

15 ^m“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. 16 ⁿYou shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not ^ostand up against the life¹ of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

17 ^p“You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but ^qyou shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you ^rincur sin because of him. 18 ^sYou shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but ^tyou shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

26 ^x“You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. ^yYou shall not interpret omens or ^ztell fortunes. 27 ^aYou shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. 28 You shall not make any ^bcuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.

29 ^c“Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land become full of depravity. 30 ^dYou shall keep my Sabbaths and ^ereverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

31 ^f“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

32 ^g“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall ^hfear your God: I am the Lord.

33 ⁱ“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34 ^jYou shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and ^kyou shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

35 ^l“You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity. 36 ^mYou shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin:¹ I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 And ⁿyou shall observe all my statutes and all my rules, and do them: I am the Lord.”

Jesus and Beelzebul

14 ^yNow he was casting out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the people marveled. 15 But some of them said, “He casts out demons ^zby Beelzebul, the prince of demons,” 16 while others, ^ato test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven. 17 ^bBut he, ^cknowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls. 18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. 19 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, ^dby whom do ^eyour sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 20 But if it is by ^fthe finger of God that I cast out demons, then ^gthe kingdom of God has come upon you. 21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; 22 ^hbut when one stronger than he attacks him and ⁱovercomes him, he takes away his ^jarmor in which he trusted and ^kdivides his spoil. 23 ^lWhoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

Return of an Unclean Spirit

24 ^m“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through ⁿwaterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25 And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. 26 Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And ^othe last state of that person is worse than the first.”

True Blessedness

27 As he said these things, ^pa woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, ^q“Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But he said, ^r“Blessed rather are those ^swho hear the word of God and ^tkeep it!”

The Sign of Jonah

29 ^uWhen the crowds were increasing, he began to say, ^v“This generation is an evil generation. ^wIt seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as ^xJonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 ^yThe queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and ^zcondemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, ^asomething greater than Solomon is here. 32 ^bThe men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and ^zcondemn it, for ^cthey repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, ^asomething greater than Jonah is here.

The Light in You

33 ^d“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 Your eye is ^ethe lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is ^fbad, your body is full of darkness. 35 ^eTherefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, ^gas when a lamp with its rays gives you light.”
