31  And you, O generation, behold the word of the Lord.

Have I been a wilderness to Israel,

or a land of thick darkness?

Why then do my people say, ‘We are free,

we will come no more to you’?

4  ^yWhat more was there to do for my vineyard,

that I have not done in it?

^xWhen I looked for it to yield grapes,

why did it yield wild grapes?

3  “O my people, ^twhat have I done to you?

^uHow have I wearied you? Answer me!
