The Sun Stands Still

1 As soon as Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, ^cheard ^dhow Joshua had captured Ai and had ^edevoted it to destruction,¹ doing to Ai and its king ^fas he had done to Jericho and its king, and ^ghow the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,

19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel ^mexcept the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle.

2 So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites. Although the people of Israel ^vhad sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to strike them down in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.
