25  ^qYour iniquities have turned these away,

and your sins have kept good from you.

3  ^lTherefore the showers have been withheld,

and the spring rain has not come;

yet you have ^mthe forehead of a whore;

you refuse to be ashamed.

17  Some were ^efools through their sinful ways,

and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;

34  ^ca fruitful land into a salty waste,

because of the evil of its inhabitants.

2  ^cbut your iniquities have made a separation

between you and your God,

and your sins have hidden his face from you

so that he does not hear.

17  ^tHave you not brought this upon yourself

by forsaking the Lord your God,

when ^uhe led you in the way?

18  ^vAnd now what do you gain by going to Egypt

to drink the waters of ^wthe Nile?¹

^xOr what do you gain by going to Assyria

to drink the waters of ^ythe Euphrates?²

19  ^zYour evil will chastise you,

and ^ayour apostasy will reprove you.

Know and see that it is evil and ^bbitter

for ^cyou to forsake the Lord your God;

the fear of me is not in you,

declares the Lord God of hosts.

39  ^gWhy should a living man complain,

a man, about the punishment of his sins?

22  ^aThe punishment of your iniquity, O daughter of Zion, is accomplished;

he will keep you in exile no longer;¹

but ^byour iniquity, O daughter of Edom, he will punish;

he will uncover your sins.
