8 And fI will set my face against that man; I will make him a sign and a byword and gcut him off from the midst of my people, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 9 And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, hI, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will istretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear their punishment1—the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike— 11 that the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, jnor defile themselves anymore with all their transgressions, but that they may be my people and I may be their God, declares the Lord God.”
Jerusalem Will Not Be Spared
12 And the word of the Lord came to me: 13 “Son of man, when a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and kbreak its supply2 of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it lman and beast, 14 meven if these three men, nNoah, oDaniel, and pJob, were in it, they would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness, declares the Lord God.
15 “If I cause qwild beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, and it be made desolate, so that no one may pass through because of the beasts, 16 even if these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.
17 “Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast,
7 therefore, behold, I have istretched out my hand against you, and will hand you over as plunder to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and will make you perish out of the countries; I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
Prophecy Against Moab and Seir
8 “Thus says the Lord God: Because jMoab and Seir1 said, ‘Behold, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,’ 9 therefore I will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim. 10 I will give it along with the Ammonites to the people of the East as a possession, that the Ammonites kmay be remembered no more among the nations, 11 and I will execute judgments upon Moab. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
Prophecy Against Edom
12 “Thus says the Lord God: Because lEdom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended in taking vengeance on them, 13 therefore thus says the Lord God, I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from Teman even to Dedan they shall fall by the sword. 14 And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and they shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.
Prophecy Against Philistia
15 “Thus says the Lord God: Because the mPhilistines acted revengefully and took vengeance with malice of soul to destroy in nnever-ending enmity, 16 therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast.
