5 ⁱYou shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a ^jjealous God, ^kvisiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but ^lshowing steadfast love to thousands¹ of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 ^tkeeping steadfast love for thousands,^{1 u}forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will ^vby no means clear the guilty, ^wvisiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

9 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, ^bvisiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 10 but ^cshowing steadfast love to thousands¹ of those who love me and keep my commandments.

9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the ^yfaithful God who ^zkeeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, 10 and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face.
