37 And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a qbyword among all the peoples where the Lord will lead you away.
6 x“He has made me a byword of the peoples,
and I am one before whom men spit.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations,
a laughingstock1 among the peoples.
11 When I made sackcloth my clothing,
I became a byword to them.
9 I will make them a horror1 to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a reproach, a byword, a taunt, and a curse in all the places where I shall drive them.
8 And fI will set my face against that man; I will make him a sign and a byword and gcut him off from the midst of my people, and you shall know that I am the Lord.
17 pBetween the vestibule and the altar
qlet the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep
and say, “Spare your people, O Lord,
and make not your heritage a rreproach,
a byword among the nations.1
Why should they say among the peoples,
s‘Where is their God?’”
