18 Then all the people of the land went to the ^ohouse of Baal and tore it down; ^phis altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they ^qkilled Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest posted watchmen over the house of the Lord.

20 ^a“Whoever sacrifices to any god, other than the Lord alone, shall be devoted to destruction.¹

40 And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.” And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and ^pslaughtered them there.
