4 Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him ^ya lamp in Jerusalem, setting up his son after him, and establishing Jerusalem,

17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid and attacked the Philistine and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, ^p“You shall no longer go out with us to battle, lest you quench ^qthe lamp of Israel.”

19 Yet the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant, ^lsince he promised to give ^ma lamp to him and to his sons forever.
