Eli’s Worthless Sons
12 Now the sons of Eli were aworthless men. bThey did not know the Lord.
17 Thus the sin of the young men was very great din the sight of the Lord, efor the men treated the offering of the Lord with contempt.
Eli Rebukes His Sons
22 Now Eli was very old, and he kept hearing all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who lwere serving at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
24 No, my sons; it is no good report that I hear the people of the Lord spreading abroad.
29 Why then do you tscorn1 my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded for my dwelling, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’
13 lAnd I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, mbecause his sons were blaspheming God,1 nand he did not restrain them.
58 “If you are not careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, lthe Lord your God, 59 then the Lord will bring on you and your offspring extraordinary afflictions, afflictions severe and lasting, and sicknesses grievous and lasting.
