Owning a Bible Is One Thing; Reading It Is Another

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Anna at Hope Road wrote two Bible-related posts recently. The first reminds us of the privilege we have to be able to own Bibles, a privilege that sometimes leads us to value the Bible less than we should:
Wycliffe says that “more than 2,200 language communities still do not have true access to even one verse [...]

Two Approaches to Family Devotions

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Gregory at IsaiahSix writes about switching from children’s Bible storybooks to a “real” Bible for family devotions:
One of the things we’ve been trying recently in my family is reading the actual Bible, not the condensed stories. Modern translations are often broken into sections and paragraphs short enough that they can be used in family worship [...]

Ben from openswitch unboxes his new ESV. (Unboxing involves taking photos of something you’ve just bought as you take it out of its box, then posting those photos on the web. Usually people unbox electronics.) A commenter on the post notes that these photos may be the first Bible unboxing photos on the Internet. (But [...]

OpenBible.info has created a Topical Bible Mashup of the ESV and Yahoo! web services. It currently has about 4,000 topics based on how people complete the question “What does the Bible say about…?” For example, what does the Bible say about marriage or divorce or sin?
Here’s how it works: they created the topic list with [...]

WordPress Plugin and Bible Memory Updates

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Chris at Exploring the Mystery has updated the WordPress ESV Plugin, which automatically links Bible references in your blog to the ESV text. An important (but largely transparent) change is the adoption of a Bible-reference microformat to allow search engines and others to understand Bible references more semantically (and automatically).
Separately, Robert at BibleMemory.us has announced [...]

Friday, June 8th, 2007

John at The Misadventures of Captain Headknowledge writes that the ESV Literary Study Bible will be the next study Bible to join his collection:
My daddy always encouraged me to collect things that I could later sell at a profit. My Study Bible collection provides dividends of a more valuable kind (at least to me)–the benefit [...]
